M.D. believed he was related to a 19th century Portuguese sailor whose bravery saved a number of lives during a shipwreck off Anglesey. Unfortunately, I had to disappoint M.D. He was not related to that sailor, but I did discover that he was related to another sailor who became a docks policeman in Liverpool and who in 1834, singlehandedly, apprehended a man who had knifed a prostitute to death. |
